Dr. Moe Kyaw Thu serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. He holds a Ph.D. degree and his research specializations encompass agricultural biotechnology, molecular biology, and molecular genetics. In his leadership role, he oversees the department's mission to enhance agricultural productivity and quality through the application of biotechnology, providing students and researchers with scientific knowledge and practical skills. The department under his guidance has organized activities such as a knowledge sharing workshop on biotechnology research and development, and a training program on the technological development, application, and maintenance of biotechnology laboratory equipment, funded by the Mekong-Lancang special fund in 2020.
Dr. Moe Kyaw Thu has actively contributed to research in plant genetics and biotechnology, co-authoring several peer-reviewed publications focused on genetic diversity, mutagenesis, and tissue culture of Myanmar's indigenous plant species. Key publications include 'Assessment of Some Promising Lines of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)' in the International Journal of Engineering Research & Development (corresponding author), 'Determination of the Lethal Dose of Ethyl Methane Sulfonate (EMS) for Optimal in vitro Mutagenesis of Myanmar Banana cv. Phee-gyan' in Asian Plant Research Journal (2025), 'Genetic Diversity Analysis of Myanmar Royal Orchid, Thazin (Bulbophyllum auricomum)' (2026), 'Effects of Plant Growth Regulators and Organic Additives on Shoot Regeneration of Myanmar Royal Orchid (Bulbophyllum auricomum Lindl.) from in vitro Seedlings' (2026), 'Genetic diversity of ayeyarmin mutant rice population using morphological traits' (2022), 'Characterization of Trichoderma species Isolated from Different Ecosystems in Myanmar' (2020), 'Effects of Different Explant Types, Plant Growth Regulators on Callus Induction' (year not specified), and participation in JICA projects such as screening of rice varieties against diseases in 2016.
