Professor Mohammed Awad serves as Associate Provost for Student Success and Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), where he joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the fall of 2013. Previously, he held the position of assistant professor at Al-Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan, earning the distinction of being ranked the number one professor by students in the School of Information Technology. His academic background includes a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Houston in 2011, an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Houston in 2006, and a BSc in Computer Science from Yarmouk University in 2003. During his graduate studies at the University of Houston, he served as a teaching assistant for various computer science courses.
Awad has been honored at AURAK with the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the President’s Award for Leadership in Service. His research interests encompass cybersecurity, particularly e-voting and i-voting security, machine learning, data analytics, and technology education. He contributed to a National Science Foundation grant aimed at developing a curriculum module on electronic voting for non-computer science majors. With over 42 publications and more than 1,000 citations as per ResearchGate, his scholarly impact is notable. Key publications include "A Review of Recent Developments in Driver Drowsiness Detection Systems" (2022, cited 297 times), "Examining the Suitability of NetFlow Features in Detecting Botnet Traffic" (2022), "Password Security: Password Behavior Analysis at a Small University" (2017), "The Evolution of Voting: Analysis of Conventional and Electronic Voting Systems" (2016, cited 19 times), "End-to-End Cryptography: Spreading Democracy" (2016), and "Evaluating Learning Management System Usage at a Small University" (2019).
