About Mohammed

Professor Mohammed Solaiman serves as Professor and Acting Vice Chancellor at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), affiliated with the Department of Business Administration. He holds key leadership positions including Chairman of the Syndicate, Chairman of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and Member of the Board of Trustees. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chittagong in 1979, followed by a PhD from the University of Pune, India, in 1990, and a post-doctoral degree from the University of Rhode Island, USA, in 1999. Previously, he was Professor of Marketing at the University of Chittagong and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) in Dhaka from May 2016 to April 2022. At USTC, he has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Dean of the International Institute of Business Administration (IIBA), contributing to the growth of business education and administration programs.

Professor Solaiman’s scholarly contributions focus on marketing and related fields, with notable publications such as 'Issues of Consumerism in Bangladesh: Present Status and Future Challenges' (2012), 'Social Entrepreneurship (SE) Development in Bangladesh,' 'Mollusc Marketing System through Value Chain Analysis with Special Emphasis on Livelihood of the Poor Fishermen,' 'Ethical Issues in Marketing of Bank Services: A Study on Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited,' and 'Branding in Bottom of Pyramid (BOP): Case of Grameen Phone.' These works explore consumerism, ethical marketing practices, value chains in fisheries and agribusiness, social entrepreneurship, and branding strategies for low-income markets. His research has implications for business practices and economic development in coastal and rural Bangladesh. Among his honors are the Fulbright Fellowship and the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. As Vice Chancellor, he has led initiatives including partnerships with the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), international seminars on sustainable business, workshops on research grants and thesis writing, and orientation programs for new batches, fostering academic-industry collaboration and quality assurance at USTC.
