Morgan Barnard is an Associate Professor of Media Arts and Technology at New Mexico Highlands University, where he is affiliated with the Department of Media Arts and Technology. He holds a Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.) in Media Arts from New York University Tisch School of the Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from California College of the Arts. The department, in which Morgan Barnard serves as faculty, focuses on educating students in the technical skills, theoretical underpinnings, and sociocultural contexts of media arts and software systems design. It emphasizes collaboration, experimentation, and the intersection of art and technology, drawing from Northern New Mexico's history of arts and innovation as well as Hispanic and Native American cultural heritage. Programs include the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Media Arts with emphases in Visual Communication, Multimedia and Interactivity, or Video and Audio; the Bachelor of Science in Software Systems Design (BSSD); related minors; and an Interactive Cultural Technology Certificate. New Mexico Highlands University requires a minimum of 45 upper-division credits for these degrees.
In 2022, Morgan Barnard received the Epson Emerging Artist Award, as recognized by the New Mexico Highlands University Board of Regents during their December 5, 2022 meeting. He has served as a faculty advisor for student interns in the Highlands Cultural Technology Program, including collaborations with the New Mexico Association of Museums and 516 ARTS for a virtual tech showcase in 2021. A university photo essay documents Morgan Barnard, described as an independent video artist and consultant, assisting students with projection display installations at the Jemez Historic Site. Morgan Barnard is part of the faculty team awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant in 2021 to build a digital community-based archive preserving New Mexico community histories. He has represented the Media Arts and Technology department in Faculty Senate meetings, such as those on January 26, 2022, February 9, 2022, and September 28, 2022.
