Dr Mutuota Kigotho serves as a Lecturer in English, Literacies and Language Education within the School of Education at the University of New England, Australia. He earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, Master of Education from Kenyatta University, Kenya, Doctor of Education from Macquarie University, and Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education from the University of New England. His research specializations include distance education and eLearning, rhetoric with a focus on the teaching and assessment of writing, the teaching of reading comprehension, literacy and numeracy education, and the use of social media for educational purposes. Kigotho's doctoral thesis, titled "The Structure of Kikuyu Oral Narratives and its Relationship to the Teaching of Writing in Kenyan Secondary Schools," was completed in 2004.
In his teaching portfolio, Kigotho covers literacy education emphasizing reading comprehension and writing, rhetoric, secondary English specialist curriculum studies, and the teaching of numeracy. His career history at UNE encompasses appointments in the Department of Curriculum, specifically the Languages, Literacies and Literature team. Notable publications include co-editing the book "Education across space and time: meeting the diverse needs of the distance learner" (2013) and guest editing special issues of the Distance Education journal (2013 and 2018).
