Nahid Turan, PhD, serves as Associate Professor, Vice President of Operations, and Chief Biobanking Officer at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research. She holds a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, an advanced degree in toxicology, and a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. Her postdoctoral training occurred at the Fels Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Biology, Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Fertility Clinic, where she investigated the impact of assisted reproductive technologies on the human epigenome and transcriptome using whole-genome genotyping, expression and methylation analyses, and bioinformatics approaches. With over six years of postdoctoral experience in human genetics and epigenetics, complemented by more than thirteen years in biobanking operations, Dr. Turan brings extensive expertise to her roles.
As VP Operations and Chief Biobanking Officer, she manages biobanking contracts and grants, production laboratories, R&D, logistics, quality assurance, safety, and customer service, upholding the highest standards of efficiency and quality. Since 2016, she has been part of Coriell's Executive Leadership Team, advancing the institute's strategic objectives. Dr. Turan is Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Repository and Genomics Resource—the world's largest psychiatry biorepository with over 3.5 million samples and data from more than 200,000 individuals—and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Human Genetic Cell Repository, featuring extensive biospecimens for genetic diseases and human variation. Previously, she served as Chief Laboratory Officer and PI for the NIGMS Repository and the CHD GENES Biorepository under the Pediatric Cardiac Genomics Consortium. Before joining Coriell, she was an associate scientist at the Fels Institute. She also serves on the board of the Camden Cancer Research Center, a partnership with Cooper University Hospital and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
