Nancy Welborn is an Associate Professor of Community Practice in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Louisiana State University in 1990. Dr. Welborn serves as Service Chief for the Community Practice service within the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where the team provides exceptional primary care to companion animals. Her teaching interests focus on preventive care, equipping veterinary students with essential skills for clinical practice.
Dr. Welborn has received recognition for her teaching excellence, including the Dean's Teacher Merit Honor Roll for Years I and II in 2023 and in 2022. She advises the LSU STEP Club, supporting students in training puppies for service work and contributing to national efforts in service animal wellness. In 2022, she delivered the commencement address to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2022. Dr. Welborn engages in public outreach, offering expert advice on pet health topics such as preventing heatstroke in dogs and cats, managing separation anxiety, mitigating the effects of fireworks on pets, choosing healthy pet treats, and differentiating kennel cough from other canine respiratory issues through media interviews with outlets like WAFB. She oversees blood donor programs for cats at the LSU Veterinary Hospital and participates in recruiting for clinical trials. Dr. Welborn co-authored a publication titled 'Comparison of fibroblast growth factor 19 concentrations in dogs after cholecystectomy' in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2024.
