Associate Professor Natalie Morgan specializes in poultry nutrition within the Faculty of Science and Technology at Curtin University, serving in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences. She joined Curtin University in 2022 as Senior Lecturer in Animal Science and advanced to Associate Professor. Previously, she held positions at the University of New England, progressing from Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2015 to Senior Lecturer in Animal Science. Morgan earned a BSc (Hons) in Animal Biology in 2010 and a PhD in Poultry Nutrition in 2014 from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom. Her academic career encompasses teaching in animal nutrition, poultry production, and animal biosecurity.
Morgan's research focuses on dietary fibre, non-starch polysaccharides, prebiotics including xylo-oligosaccharides, phytate degradation, feed enzymes, and their impacts on poultry gut health, nutrient bioavailability, and performance in broilers and laying hens. Notable publications include 'A review of the iron requirements and its determination in commercial poultry' (2026), 'Effects of AM/PM diets on laying performance, egg quality, and nutrient utilisation in free-range laying hens' (2024), 'Holo-analysis of the effects of xylo-oligosaccharides on broiler chicken performance' (2024), 'Advances in prebiotics for poultry: role of the caeca and oligosaccharides' (2023), and 'Improving sorghum digestion in broilers by targeting fermentation of xylan' (2022). Her contributions have shaped poultry industry practices by emphasizing fibre's role in diet formulation and prebiotics for enhanced nutrient absorption and waste reduction. Awards include the 2023 ICM Agrifood Award, 2021 Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Science and Innovation Award (Australian Eggs Award), 2020 UNE 3Rs Award, and 2018 UNE Dean’s Award for Early Career Research Excellence.
