About Nelson

Nelson Jatel is a Lecturer in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, within the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science. He teaches courses including EESC 301 and EESC 402. His academic background includes a BSc in Freshwater Science and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of British Columbia, completed in 2013, with research on water governance in the Okanagan region using social network analysis.

Jatel’s research focuses on applied limnology and water management technologies, social network analysis for watershed governance and organizational performance, and innovative decision-support tools for community networks and policy development. He serves as Water Stewardship Director for the Okanagan Basin Water Board, where his work emphasizes sustainable water management, hydrometric monitoring, cyanobacteria monitoring, and governance innovations through stakeholder collaboration. Jatel founded Limnology Research Corp. in 2001 and Barrierflow Technologies, contributing to projects on watershed governance mapping, participatory decision-support models, and non-chemical invasive species control technologies. He is a Professional Agrologist in British Columbia.
