Nicole Esposito is the Professor of Flute and Head of the Woodwind Area in Arts and Culture at The University of Iowa School of Music. A charismatic and versatile flutist, she has established an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and educator, with performances spanning the United States, Europe, Central and South America, and Asia. Esposito has appeared at numerous prestigious flute festivals and events, including twelve National Flute Association Conventions, the Spanish National Flute Convention, Bogotá Flute Festival, International Flute Congress of Argentina, Chilean Flute Encounter, European Piccolo Festival in Slovenia, Adams Flute Festival in Holland, Flute Forum in Luxembourg, Canadian Flute Convention, and British Flute Society Convention. She has delivered masterclasses at renowned institutions such as the Geneva Conservatory, Royal Danish Academy, Madrid Royal Conservatory, Mannheim Hochschule, and Milan Civic Music School.
Esposito holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan, studying with master teachers Jeanne Baxtresser, Amy Porter, Marianne Gedigian, Jennifer Steele, Catherine Payne, Mark Sparks, Alberto Almarza, and Doriot Anthony Dwyer. Her career history includes prior faculty positions at Interlochen Arts Camp and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a guest teaching residency at the University of Michigan, principal flute with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, and performances with the Quad City Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, and Johnstown and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras under conductors James Conlon, David Zinman, Gunther Schuller, and Robert Spano. She held the Piccolo Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and served as Principal Flute of the Ohio Light Opera, participating in festivals like Brevard Music Center and National Orchestral Institute. A finalist or prizewinner in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist, Piccolo Artist, and Orchestral Competitions, WAMSO Competition, and Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, Esposito has published articles in Banddirector.com, The Flutist Quarterly, Flute Focus, and Flute Talk magazines. Her recordings appear on Albany Records, MSR Classics—including the album Intersections with harpist Çağatay Akyol—and Con Brio Recordings. She has received the 2026 Marion L. Huit Faculty Award and the 2019-2020 Collegiate Teaching Award.
