Nicole Gattas, Pharm.D., FAPhA, BCPS, is Director of Experiential Education and Professor of Pharmacy Practice at St. Louis College of Pharmacy, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Iowa on May 10, 2002, and completed a Community Pharmacy Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy and Dominick's Pharmacy from July 1, 2002, to June 30, 2003.
Gattas's research interests include experiential education, community pharmacy, immunization, and vaccines. Her publications address pharmacy education, communication skills, health literacy, interprofessional collaboration, precepting challenges, and opioid dispensing. Key works include "Design and validation of patient-centered communication tools (PaCT) to measure students’ communication skills" (American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 2017), "Health literacy: use of the Four Habits Model to improve student pharmacists’ communication" (Patient Education and Counseling, 2013), "Student use of health literacy tools to improve patient understanding and medication adherence" (The Consultant Pharmacist, 2014), "Pharmacist and physician perception of barriers to collaborative drug therapy management in Missouri" (Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice, 2021), "Addressing challenges to precepting advanced pharmacy practice experience students in the community setting" (Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, 2020), "Pharmacist Opioid Dispensing Confidence in an Evolving Practice Landscape" (Journal of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacotherapy, 2022), "Does It Spark Joy? Refining Processes; Cutting Inefficiencies" (American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 2025), and "Retrospective Analysis of APPE Failures Since 2020" (American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 2024). In her leadership role, Gattas oversees experiential education programs, including IPPEs and APPEs, and promotes preceptor-student engagement to guide career development in pharmacy.
