Nicole Schatz is a Research Associate Professor and Clinic Director in the Department of Psychology at Florida International University, affiliated with the Center for Children and Families. She earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012, an M.A. from the same institution in 2009, and a B.A. from Missouri State University in 2005. Dr. Schatz completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Her career includes post-doctoral research associate positions from 2012 to 2015 on NIH-funded projects, such as improving parenting capacity to promote safe driving for adolescents with ADHD and interventions for teens with ADHD and substance use. She joined Florida International University in 2015 as a Visiting Research Assistant Professor and advanced to her current roles, serving as co-investigator and project coordinator on grants including those from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and National Institute of Mental Health.
Dr. Schatz's research focuses on evidence-based interventions for children and adolescents with ADHD, including family-based behavioral interventions to improve communication and problem-solving strategies for greater success at home, school, and with peers, as well as effective academic interventions in school settings. Key publications include "Reconceptualizing the approach to supporting students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in school settings" (2024), "Diversity and representation in ADHD psychosocial treatment research: A comprehensive synthesis with data from over 10,000 participants" (2024), "Comprehensive Meta-Analysis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Psychosocial Treatments Investigated Within Between Group Studies" (2021), "Summer Treatment Programs for Youth with ADHD" (2014), and "Efficacy of a Family-Focused Intervention for Young Drivers With Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" (2016). She received the FIU Top Scholar Award for Junior Faculty with Significant Grants in the Sciences in 2022. Her work has garnered over 1,500 citations, influencing ADHD treatment dissemination and clinical practice.
