Nigel Gribble is a Senior Lecturer in the Curtin School of Allied Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He holds a PhD, Master of Business Administration from Curtin University, and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with Honours. Gribble has been affiliated with Curtin University since at least 2004, previously serving as Director of Fieldwork and Lecturer in the School of Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Speech Pathology. His academic career focuses on clinical education and professional development in allied health fields.
Gribble's research specializations encompass emotional intelligence development in health professional students, particularly occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, and business students during clinical placements. He has examined fluctuations in emotional intelligence over placement periods, strategies for interprofessional facilitators and supervisors to enhance it, and the comparative impacts of simulated versus traditional placements. Additional interests include international work-integrated learning placements and their influence on cultural sensitivity, competency, professional growth, and personal development, as well as relationships in neurodiverse couples. Key publications include 'Simulated versus traditional occupational therapy placements: A randomised controlled trial' (2018, Australian Occupational Therapy Journal), 'The impact of clinical placements on the emotional intelligence of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, and business students: a longitudinal study' (2019, BMC Medical Education), 'Fluctuations in the emotional intelligence of therapy students during clinical placements: Implication for educators, supervisors, and students' (2017, Journal of Interprofessional Care), 'International placements increase the cultural sensitivity and competency of professional health students: A quantitative and qualitative study' (2012, Journal of Physical Therapy Education), and 'Changes in the emotional intelligence of occupational therapy students during practice education: A longitudinal study' (2018, British Journal of Occupational Therapy). His scholarship has garnered over 500 citations.
