About Nikki

Dr Nikki Moreland is a Professor in Infection and Immunity in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Auckland. She serves as a Principal Investigator of the Maurice Wilkins Centre and as a Pillar lead of the National RNA. Moreland obtained her BSc in Biology and PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Auckland. She previously held positions as a research fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland and at Duke-NUS.

Her research expertise centres on humoral immunology, antibody technology, and infectious diseases, with a particular focus on Streptococcus pyogenes and rheumatic fever, as well as contributions to studies on neutralising antibodies against COVID-19. Moreland has led research programmes such as Rapua Strep A investigating strain diversity in rheumatic fever in New Zealand. She is also involved in vaccine development efforts for Streptococcus pyogenes.
