About Nisha

Dr Nisha Nadesan-Reddy is a Public Health Medicine Specialist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She obtained her MBChB summa cum laude from the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She holds a Fellowship of the College of Public Health Medicine of South Africa [FCPHM (SA)] and a Master of Medicine in Public Health Medicine awarded in 2011.

Dr Nadesan-Reddy serves as Project Manager for the DRILL programme at the Centre for Rural Health. She has more than a decade of experience leading multi-country externally funded health programmes at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, with expertise in health systems strengthening, research capacity development, and addressing climate-related health threats. She previously managed the NIH/FIC Medical Education Partnership Initiative grant and currently manages the £2.3M NIHR WEATHER initiative and the £2.5M Wellcome Trust CHI² project. Her roles have included co-directing the UKZN hub of the African HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Health Implementation Research Institute and mentoring over 25 healthcare professionals through NIH-funded programmes. She is pursuing a PhD on climate-resilient health systems in KwaZulu-Natal. Her publications include a 2013 paper in the South African Medical Journal on traffic calming and pedestrian injuries, and 2016 papers in the African Journal of Health Professions Education on biostatistical workshops and decentralised training programmes.
