Norah Mazel is the Director of Learning, Research, and Engagement and Assistant Professor in the Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. In this capacity, she directs initiatives to support student learning, faculty research, and library engagement activities. As the departmental liaison for Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology, Mazel provides expert research consultations, instructional sessions, and customized research guides to advance academic success in these STEM fields. Her office is located in EPC 219, and she is available for in-person and online appointments.
Mazel has progressed through key roles at UCCS, including Online Learning Librarian and Faculty Director of Access Services. She served as Faculty Assembly Secretary from 2016 to 2017 and has contributed to faculty governance through committee work on constitution revisions and policy discussions. Selected for the University of Colorado System's Excellence in Leadership Program in 2017-2018, she was recognized as a campus leader in the 2024 UCCS awards celebration. Mazel's research addresses critical issues in library and information science. Her article 'Generative AI and the Reinforcement of Information Privilege: Implications for Information Literacy Instruction' was published in Library Trends (2025), exploring AI's role in perpetuating information disparities and strategies for inclusive teaching. She co-authored 'A Usability Study and Implications for Information Literacy Instruction' in the Journal of Web Librarianship (2019), evaluating student use of discovery tools. Additional contributions include 'PREPARING YOUR CROP: UNDERSTANDING STUDENT DISCOVERY TOOL PREFERENCES' (2022). Through her publications and leadership, Mazel advances information literacy practices and library innovation at UCCS.
