Dr. Noren Nor Hasmun is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Paediatric Dentistry within the Department of Oral Sciences at the University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Otago, and a PhD from the University of Sheffield. Her academic career at Otago includes clinical supervision for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and DClinDent Paediatric Dentistry students, as well as serving as co-coordinator for the DENT461 paper, The Dentist and the Patient 3. She provides clinical treatment for children aged 18 and under and supervises postgraduate research on topics such as aesthetic management of early carious lesions and translation and validation of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) questionnaires into the Malay language.
Dr. Hasmun's research specializations centre on paediatric dentistry, with a particular emphasis on molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH), developmental dental defects, aesthetic management of hypomineralised anterior teeth, early carious lesions, and OHRQoL in children. Her PhD investigated the impact of minimally invasive aesthetic treatments for MIH-affected anterior teeth on children's OHRQoL. She contributes to international multi-centre studies, including investigations into co-existing dental anomalies like hypodontia in children with MIH. Key publications include: Nazzal et al.
