About Ove

Professor Ove Peters is Deputy Head of School and Professor of Endodontics at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry, where he joined in 2020 as a clinician-scientist. He holds a Doctoral Diploma of Dentistry from Christian Albrechts Universität zu Kiel, a Master of Science from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics from the University of Zurich. Peters is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and has over 35 years of experience as a dentist, combining laboratory research with clinical studies. His research specializations encompass endodontics, including root canal treatment, vital pulp therapy, design and functional evaluation of endodontic instruments using micro-computed tomography, clinical efficacy of nickel-titanium instruments, and immunomodulatory regulation of stem-cell based pulpal repair through lipid mediators. He has authored more than 250 manuscripts on endodontic technology and biology, two books, and chapters in leading dentistry textbooks.

Peters' career includes faculty positions in Heidelberg, Germany; Zurich, Switzerland; and the University of California, San Francisco. Previously, he was a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific, where he founded the postgraduate endodontic program. Major awards include the Hans Genet Award from the European Society of Endodontology, the Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists, and the Distinguished Scientist Award in Pulp Biology from the International Association for Dental Research. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry and the American College of Dentistry. Key publications feature "Current Challenges and Concepts in the Preparation of Root Canal Systems" (2004), "Present status and future directions: Canal shaping" (2022), and "Applying artificial intelligence to detect and analyse oral and maxillofacial bone loss—A scoping review" (2023). As Associate Editor of the International Endodontic Journal and Academic Editor of PLOS One, Peters has profoundly impacted endodontic technology, instrumentation, and clinical outcomes.
