About P. N.

Dr. P. N. Palanisamy is Senior Professor and Dean (Planning and Development) in the Department of Chemistry at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, Erode. He holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed University), Dindigul (First Class, 1988), an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Annamalai University, Chidambaram (First Class, 1991), and a Ph.D. in Chemistry in the area of Catalysis from Annamalai University (1996). His professional journey began as Lecturer at Jaya Engineering College, Chennai (1996-1997). He joined Kongu Engineering College on June 4, 1997, advancing from Lecturer (OG) to Lecturer (SG) (2001-2008), Assistant Professor (2008-2009), Assistant Professor and Head (2009-2010), Associate Professor and Head (2010-2011), Professor and Head (2011-2021), Professor (2021-2023), Professor and Chief Coordinator (Planning and Development) (2023-2025), and his current role since November 2025. With 30 years of teaching Chemistry to B.E./B.Tech. students and research experience since 1992, he also served as Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator of the IGNOU Study Centre (2000-2021).

His research focuses on Catalysis and Environmental Chemistry, with 117 journal publications (44 SCI/SCIE, 26 SCOPUS-indexed) and over 150 conference presentations, accumulating more than 2,674 citations. Key works include 'Adsorption studies of Basic Red 29 by a non-conventional low-cost activated carbon' (P. Sivakumar and P. N. Palanisamy, 2009), 'Hexacyanoferrate (III) Catalysis of Perborate Oxidation of Aniline' (C. Karunakaran and P. N. Palanisamy, Polish J. Chem., 1996), 'Molybdenum (VI) and Tungsten (VI) Catalysis of Perborate Oxidation of Aniline' (1996), and studies on dye adsorption, wastewater treatment, and eco-friendly materials. He authored textbooks Environmental Science (Revised Second Edition) and Applied Chemistry. Awards include Best Teacher Award (KEC, 1997-1998, 2021-2022), Cognizant-KEC Best Faculty Award (2012), Best Performing Researcher Award (2014), Outstanding Scientist Award (Venus International Foundation, 2015), Shri P K Das Memorial Best Faculty Award (2016), Best Scientist Award (2017), and Best Faculty for 2019 appraisal. He contributes to college governance as member of the Finance Committee, Academic Council, Anti-Ragging Cell, and Chief Coordinator (Planning Cell).
