Parker Ormond is a Teacher Education Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago College of Education, Southland Campus in Invercargill. He concurrently holds the positions of Co-Associate Dean Māori and Kaiārahi o Te Pōkai Mātauranga o te Ao Rua, leading the primary bilingual teacher education programme within the Division of Humanities. Of Ngāti Rongomaiwhaine and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa descent, Ormond supports Māori student success, builds iwi relationships, and contributes to the College's commitment to bicultural education practices.
Ormond coordinates key papers in bilingual and Māori-medium education, including EDPR251 Te Mātauranga on professional studies and practice in bilingual settings, EDCR353 Whakaurunga o ngā Marautanga addressing curriculum integration for bilingual primary students, EDPR351 Te Māramatanga focusing on integrating te reo me ngā tikanga Māori, and EDCR155 Whakatakinga Marautanga me Tikanga ā Iwi introducing curriculum alongside iwi-specific practices. His academic output includes the 2023 book chapter 'He ara e rua he whāinga kotahi: Walking dual pathways toward shared goals in initial primary sector teacher education,' co-authored with Alexandra C. Gunn, Meredith Kelly, Bilinda Offen, and Steven Sexton, published in the International Handbook on Education Development in Asia-Pacific by Springer Nature. He also co-presented 'Te Tangi o te Tīti' in 2008 with Maree Snowden at the Te Toi Tauira mō te Matariki 9th Wānanga-ā-tau in Auckland.
