About Patricia

Associate Professor Patricia Hullah is a respiratory and sleep medicine physician and medical academic at Macquarie University Medical School. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy (BAppSc Phty), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (MBBS Hons) from the University of Sydney in 2004, a Diploma in Palliative Medicine (DipPallMed Clinical), and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Hullah completed her specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital and Concord Hospital. She has been affiliated with Northern Beaches Hospital since its opening in 2018, where she serves as Chair of Grand Rounds and contributes to multidisciplinary cancer care teams. At Macquarie University, she holds key leadership positions including Head of Northern Beaches Clinical School since January 2021, Year 4 Lead, Co-Discipline Lead for Medicine, Acting Stage 2 Lead, and Discipline Lead for Medicine in various clinical placement units.

Hullah's clinical interests encompass obstructive sleep apnoea, obstructive airways disease including COPD, asthma, and bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, and pleural disease. Her research has focused on diagnostic methods in sleep disordered breathing, pulmonary embolism, symptom management, and psychosocial impacts on health. Key publications include 'Lung cancer screening: A promising new frontier' (Australian Journal of General Practice, 2024, co-authored with Sapir Dvuchbabny, Tim Tse, Simon Willcock, and Bosco Wu) and contributions to a multicentre study on clinical handover models published in the Internal Medicine Journal (2019). She is an executive member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, serving as Secretary for the New South Wales branch, and acts as a local examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Hullah demonstrates significant commitment to medical education through her leadership in clinical training programs and supervision of junior doctors at Macquarie University.
