Rate My Professor Patrick McGlinchey

Revd Dr Patrick McGlinchey serves as Lecturer in Missiology and Pastoral Studies at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute. He holds a BA, BTh and MA in Theology from the University of Nottingham and a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast, completed in 2013 with a thesis examining Ratzinger’s Augustinianism and Evangelicalism. Prior to his appointment at the Institute in 2009, he worked as Church of Ireland chaplain to Queen’s University Belfast, planted a joint Anglican-Baptist church in the Diocese of Norwich, and served in parish roles in England. He also holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Theology at Trinity College Dublin.

McGlinchey’s research focuses on twentieth-century Roman Catholic theology, evangelicalism, ecumenical dialogue, Fresh Expressions of church and mission in contemporary culture. He has authored or co-edited several publications, including Ratzinger’s Augustinianism and Evangelicalism: An Exploration in Ecumenical Rapprochement (2017), Perspectives on Preaching: A Witness of the Irish Church (2017), Perspectives on Spirituality and Prayer (2021), and the forthcoming Evangelical Conversion to Catholicism: Dead End or Opportunity? (2026). He serves on the Church of Ireland Board of Mission and is a Fellow of the Kirby Laing Institute for Public Theology. His work contributes to ongoing discussions on mission, liturgy and the interface between Catholic and evangelical traditions within Anglican theology.
