Paul Guest is Professor of Corporate Finance at King's Business School, King's College London, within the Department of Accounting and Financial Management. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and a BSc in Economics from the University of East London. Prior to his appointment at King's, he was a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Surrey (2012-2018), Reader in Accounting and Finance at Birkbeck College London (2010-2012), lecturer at Cranfield School of Management (2007-2009), and at Judge Business School (2000-2007). He is a Research Associate at the Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge.
His research specializations encompass corporate finance and corporate governance, with expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities. Notable publications include: 'The impact of board size on firm performance: evidence from the UK' (2009); 'The impact on UK acquirers of domestic, cross-border, public and private acquisitions' (2005); 'The determinants of board size and composition: Evidence from the UK' (2008); 'Does board ethnic diversity impact board monitoring outcomes?' (2019, British Journal of Management); 'Executive Compensation and Ethnic Minority Status' (2017, Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society); 'Do Corporate Governance Ratings Change Investor Expectations? Evidence from Announcements by Institutional Shareholder Services' (2020, Review of Finance); and 'Risk Management in Financial Institutions: A Replication' (2021, Journal of Finance). His research addresses board composition, ethnic diversity in executive roles, executive pay, investor expectations regarding governance, and risk management. At King's College London, he is Head of Workload Allocation Model and a member of the Finance Committee.
