Dr. Paul Howard serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Management at Griffith Business School, Griffith University, where he contributes to the Asian Business discipline. Previously, he held the position of Program Director for the Bachelor of Asian Studies. His teaching responsibilities encompass courses focused on Asia-Pacific dynamics, including Asian Societies: Contemporary Issues and Challenges (3053IBA, convenor for 2025 Trimester 2 at Gold Coast campus), Partnerships in Australia, Asia and the Pacific (3052IBA, convenor for 2025 Trimester 2 at Nathan campus), and Crime, Business and Politics in Asia (3017IBA, convenor for 2026 Trimester 1 online). These courses address contemporary societal challenges, regional partnerships, and intersections of crime, business, and politics in Asia, delivered in mixed-mode and online formats.
Dr. Howard is an active researcher with the Griffith Asia Institute, participating in its China Hub, Southeast Asia Hub, and Green Transition and Development Hub. His research specializations center on governance, political transformation, sustainable development, climate change policies, sanitation access, and migration in developing Asia. Notable publications include the book chapter 'Think tanks and the governance of political transformation in China' co-authored with Doug Smith (2020, in Governance and Democracy in the Asia-Pacific: Political and Civil Society); 'From "Harmony" to a "Dream": China's Evolving Position on Climate Change' (2017, in Pathways to a Sustainable Economy, pages 129-147); 'The sanitation access to developing Asia: India's performance and challenges' co-authored with Moazzem Hossain (2014, World Journal of Science, Technology and Sustainable Development); 'Sanitation Development in Cambodia and India: Political Economy and Civil Society' (International Journal of Public and Private Perspectives on Risk, Uncertainty, and Accountable Governance, pages 1-13); and contributions to works on South-South migration patterns, including temporary migration of Cambodians in the Mekong sub-region, and development analysis in Jinghong, Xishuangbanna (1990-2012). Previously affiliated with the Department of International Business and Asian Studies, his scholarship examines political economy, civil society influences, and policy evolution in Asian contexts. Located at Nathan Campus (N16 1.58), Dr. Howard supports Griffith University's emphasis on Asia-focused business education and research.
