Dr. Peter Busch is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing at Macquarie University, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He serves as the course administrator for the information systems (IS) discipline in the school. Busch's academic background spans multiple fields, beginning with a BA in Geography and German from the University of Adelaide, awarded in 1989, followed by an MA in Librarianship from Monash University in 1991, with a thesis on German-born persons' use of public library resources in Melbourne. He then specialized in Information Systems, earning a Graduate Diploma in Science from the University of Tasmania in 1993 and a Bachelor of Computing with First Class Honours from the same institution in 1994, focusing on a strategic plan for data communications networking in Tasmania Health. Busch completed his PhD in Information Systems at Macquarie University, awarded in 2005, titled "Knowledge Management Implications of Articulable Tacit Knowledge: Case Studies on its Diffusion." Additionally, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies from the University of Sydney, awarded in 2010.
Busch's research specializations center on knowledge management, organisational learning, and human capital, with a particular emphasis on the management of IT and human factors in IT design. His scholarly work has been cited over 2,000 times on Google Scholar. Notable publications include "Mitigating cyberloafing through employee adaptability: the roles of temporal leadership, teamwork attitudes, and competitive work environment" (Hessari et al., 2025, Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Administration), "Exploring micro-credential affordances in Bangladeshi higher education" (Ahad et al., 2025, Education and Information Technologies), "Tackling nomophobia: the influence of support systems and organizational practices" (Hessari et al., 2025, Psychology, Health and Medicine), "Respect for and from real and virtual humans" (Richards and Busch, 2025, ECIS 2025 TREOs), and "AI tools for knowledge management - knowledge base creation via LLM and RAG for AI assistant" (Pondel et al., 2024). In 2023, Busch was a co-winner of the Faculty of Science and Engineering Award for Inter-School Collaboration. Through his teaching and research in information systems, he contributes significantly to the field.
