Professor Phoebe Bailey is a Professor of Clinical Psychology and Acting Head of Discipline, Psychology in the Graduate School of Health at the University of Technology Sydney. She joined UTS in late 2021 after an early career in investment banking and a decade at Western Sydney University, where she served as Director of Academic Programs in Psychology and briefly as Acting Deputy Dean (Academic) in the School of Social Sciences and Psychology. At UTS, Bailey has led the development of the university's first graduate diploma and undergraduate psychology programs, including building the academic team and infrastructure to support them. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of New South Wales and brings extensive experience in both online and face-to-face teaching and course coordination.
Bailey's research specializes in experimental psychology, focusing on age-related changes in emotion, cognition, and motivation, with implications for trust and decision-making in older age. Her work also examines prosociality in adult development and aging. She leads an Australian Research Council Discovery Project investigating decisional isolation among solo agers in Australia. Bailey has served as guest editor for a special issue on prosociality in adult development and aging in the American Psychological Association journal Psychology and Aging. Notable publications include 'A meta-analysis of the weight of advice in decision-making' (2022), 'Advice-Taking for Objective Face Age Estimates Relative to Self-Estimated Age' (2025), 'Predictors of Psychology Student GenAI Use and Grades on Psychology Assessments' (2026), and 'Influence of Age and Message Frame on COVID-19 Protective Behaviours' (2024). She supervises Masters and PhD students, contributes to cross-faculty collaborations, and actively engages in psychology education innovation, such as integrating generative AI in teaching.
