Pingping Qiu is a Lecturer and Director of Education in the Department of Marketing within Monash Business School at Monash University, based at the Clayton campus. She earned her PhD in Business from the University of Manitoba in Canada. Qiu's research focuses on consumer psychology, including self-concept in consumer behaviour, emotions, green marketing, self-regulation, advertising, service marketing, and retailing. Her scholarly work examines critical aspects of consumer decision-making, such as the role of social capital in fostering loyalty to local retail stores amid competition from online platforms and big-box retailers. She also investigates how perceptions of legitimacy in brand rejection influence subsequent brand preferences and the impact of cultural self-construal on coupon proneness.
Qiu has contributed to the marketing literature through several peer-reviewed publications. Notable works include 'The influence of social capital on local retail patronage in an urban setting' published in 2023 in the International Journal of Consumer Studies (co-authored with Jiemiao Chen and Edward R. Bruning), 'How legitimacy of brand rejection alters brand preferences' in 2018 in the Journal of Business Research (with Miao Hu, Fang Wan, and Tyler Stillman), and 'Transformation and Rebirth of Chinese Brands: A Case From the Great Wall Motors' in 2017 in the Journal of Global Marketing (with Fang Wan). Additional publications cover topics like the impact of marketing services on loyalty and return business, and factors influencing shopping frequency in neighbourhood food stores from a social capital perspective. In her educational leadership role, Qiu coordinates key undergraduate units such as MKC1200 Principles of Marketing and MKC3110 Market Analysis and Strategy Development. She handles teaching and assessment pedagogy, curriculum development, and education quality assurance requests for the department. Qiu serves as a reference for PhD candidates in the Department of Marketing and participates in research projects, including those at the Monash Business Behavioural Laboratory on perceived empathy in service recovery.
