Dr Priscilla Cameron is a Lecturer at Griffith Film School within the Arts, Education and Law Group at Griffith University. She completed her PhD at Griffith Film School in 2021, with the thesis titled 'Taking tonal proof to the world stage: developing a framework of creative and strategic choices to enhance an aspiring Australian feature film director’s vision'. The research examines strategies for first-time Australian live-action feature film directors to transition from narrative short films to feature films under traditional financing models, aiming to reduce domestic distributor risk while maintaining the director's original vision. Cameron also holds a Graduate Certificate in Visual Arts from Griffith University. Her academic interests center on screen production, directing, and screenwriting, bridging creative practice and scholarly inquiry.
Prior to and alongside her academic career, Cameron is a screenwriter and director with notable industry achievements. She wrote and directed her debut feature film, The Butterfly Tree (2017), which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival—one of only 26 international features selected from 5,693 submissions. The film earned three nominations at the 7th AACTA Awards for Best Original Screenplay (Priscilla Cameron), Best Actor (Ewen Leslie), and Best Original Score (Caitlyn Yeo), as well as five nominations at the Ozflix Australian Independent Screen Awards. Earlier works include Edge of Realty (2003) and Beetle Feeders (2012). At Griffith Film School, she teaches undergraduate courses such as Foundations of Writing and Development (1730GFS) and Stories for Global Screen Audiences (2746GFS). Cameron has held the role of Program Director for the Master of Screen Production and the Graduate Certificate in Screen Production. Her contributions extend to moderating industry panels, including at the Brisbane International Film Festival, and fostering connections between academia and screen industry practice.
