Rae-Anne Montague is an associate professor of Library and Information Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at Chicago State University, where she serves as the Library and Information Science Program Coordinator and graduate program advisor. She earned her Ph.D. and Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In her current role, Dr. Montague teaches courses on school library media specialization, instruction, outreach, and the final project/capstone. Her professional career includes prior positions as School Library Media Program Coordinator at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and as Online Education Coordinator for the Library Education Experimental Program (LEEP) and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was recognized as the campus Ally of the Month in 2012 by the University of Illinois SODA Committee for her contributions to LGBTQ+ support.
Dr. Montague's research and scholarly work focus on community-engaged inquiry, online library and information science education, cultural competency, and LGBTQ+ library services. Her publications include 'Theories and models of and for online learning' (First Monday, 2007), co-authored with C. Haythornthwaite and others; 'Web-based information science education (WISE): Collaboration to explore and expand quality in LIS online education' (Journal of Education for Library and Information Science, 2007), with M. Pluzhenskaia; 'Policy and e-learning' (The Sage Handbook of E-Learning Research, 2007), with V.E. Varvel and L.S. Estabrook; 'Riding the waves: A case study of learners and leaders in library and information science education' (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2006); 'Queer reflections: New views from library drag storytimes' (2019), with J. Latham; 'Queerly Radical Professional Engagement: Reflections on Fifty Years of Book Awards' (2022); and 'Accepting Queer Realities' (American Libraries Magazine, 2020). She has served as chair-elect of the American Library Association's Rainbow Round Table and co-founder of the Chicago State University LGBTQ+ Resource Center, contributing to inclusive library practices and professional development in the field.
