About Ralph

Prof. Dr. Ralph Müller is a Full Professor of Biomechanics at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. He studied electrical engineering at ETH Zurich, where he also received his doctoral degree in 1994. Subsequently, he was involved in the development of a compact desktop micro-tomographic imaging system that has since been commercialized and marketed worldwide. He served as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Harvard Medical School before returning to ETH Zurich, where he heads the Laboratory for Bone Biomechanics at the Institute for Biomechanics.

Prof. Müller’s research focuses on multiscale bone biomechanics, systems mechanobiology, biomedical imaging, and simulation. His work has been cited over 50,000 times with an h-index of 118. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the ESB Huiskes Medal for Biomechanics, the Mike Horton Award, and election as an ESB Honorary Member. He is a fellow of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, the World Council of Biomechanics, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science. He has delivered keynote lectures and contributed to editorial roles in the field of biomechanics.
