Ram Parvataneni is an HS Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he serves as Division Director of General OBGYN. He earned his MD from The University of the West Indies in 1996, completed an internship at Kingston Regional Hospitals and Kingston Public Hospital in 1997, residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in 2003, and fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2006. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Parvataneni's clinical expertise lies in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, addressing conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and ovarian cysts. He offers surgical options including traditional vaginal surgery, robotic surgery, vNOTES (transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery), and transcervical radiofrequency ablation of fibroids. He introduced vNOTES surgery and transcervical radiofrequency ablation of fibroids to UCLA and Southern California, performing the first transcervical radiofrequency ablation on the West Coast and the first vNOTES in Southern California. His research focuses on healthcare outcomes, fibroid treatment options and outcomes, cost-effective healthcare delivery, measuring healthcare quality, medication management of fibroids, and minimally invasive surgery. He has contributed to studies on hidradenitis suppurativa in women, menstrual blood loss metrics, lower urinary tract symptoms related to leiomyomas, and pregnancy outcomes post-ablation versus myomectomy.
