About Ranjit

Associate Professor Ranjit Voola serves in the Discipline of Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. He earned his PhD in Marketing from the University of Newcastle in 2005, Graduate Certificate in Education Studies from the University of Sydney in 2007, Master of Marketing from the University of Newcastle in 2000, Bachelor of Business from Griffith University in 1998, Graduate Certificate in Social Change and Development from the University of Newcastle in 2001, and High School Certificate from Kodaikanal International School in 1993. His academic career at the University of Sydney Business School progressed from Lecturer (2005-2009), Senior Lecturer (2010-2013), to Associate Professor (2014-present). Prior to that, he was a casual lecturer and tutor at the University of Newcastle Business School from 2000 to 2005. In leadership roles, he is the Academic Director for Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) since 2025 and Deputy Head of Marketing (Research) from 2026.

Voola's scholarship centers on marketing's role in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty alleviation, zero hunger, social inclusion of migrant workers, and reducing inequality through business strategies. His research also covers customer engagement behaviours in social media, value creation in brand communities, proactive and responsive market orientations, and resource-based views in competitive strategies. Notable publications include "Customer engagement behaviours in social media: capturing innovation opportunities" (Journal of Services Marketing, 2018; 622 citations), "Enhancing brand relationship performance through customer participation and value creation in social media brand communities" (Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, 2019; 346 citations), "Integrating the development of graduate attributes through constructive alignment" (Journal of Marketing Education, 2008; 315 citations), "Implementing competitive strategies: the role of responsive and proactive market orientations" (European Journal of Marketing, 2010; 307 citations), "Feel the VIBE: examining value-in-the-brand-page-experience..." (Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, 2019; 293 citations), and "Can marketing reduce inequality? Evidence from marketing science" (Journal of Business Research, 2024). As Associate Editor for SDG 1 - No Poverty in the Encyclopedia of the Sustainable Development Goals (Springer, 2018), and co-editor of recent works on SDGs through marketing (2025).
