A true gem in the academic community.
Dr. Rasheedah Khayyam-Suarez serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Psychology department at Palm Beach State College. Renowned for her commitment to pedagogical excellence, particularly in online instruction, she completed the ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices course sequence in 2023. This accomplishment earned her a nationally recognized credential in online teaching excellence, co-endorsed by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and the American Council on Education (ACE). The credential validates her proficiency in applying evidence-based teaching practices rooted in research on cognition and adult learning principles. These practices are essential for modern higher education, especially in delivering high-quality virtual learning experiences to diverse student populations.
The credential specifically encompasses designing effective online course content that aligns with learning objectives, establishing inclusive and productive learning environments that support student interaction and collaboration, implementing active learning techniques to deepen engagement, promoting higher-order thinking skills through challenging activities, and utilizing assessments to inform continuous instructional improvements. On January 26, 2024, from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m., Dr. Khayyam-Suarez was among 115 Palm Beach State College faculty members across various disciplines and ranks honored at a pinning ceremony held at the Public Safety Training Center, PSD Room 108, on the Lake Worth campus. This recognition highlights her contributions to student success amid the college's strategic partnership with ACUE. As noted by PBSC President Ava L. Parker, J.D., such professional development directly enhances teaching effectiveness and student outcomes. Vice President of Academic Innovation and Strategy Dr. Roger Yohe further emphasized how these credentials align with the institution's mission to inspire hope, advance skills, and transform lives through innovative education. At the time, an additional 109 faculty, administrators, and support staff were enrolled in the course, aiming for similar credentials in 2024. Dr. Khayyam-Suarez's achievement bolsters the Psychology department's capacity to provide rigorous, research-informed instruction.
