Dr. Ray Reichenberg serves as a Senior Research Fellow for the Educational Assessment Research Unit (EARU) within the College of Education at the University of Otago. With a background as a former primary school teacher, he brings practical classroom experience to his academic pursuits. Reichenberg earned his PhD in Family and Human Development, specializing in Measurement and Statistical Analysis, from Arizona State University in 2018. He also holds an MA in Educational Psychology, focusing on Measurement, Statistics, and Methodological Studies (2013), and a BA in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Elementary Education (2009), both from Arizona State University. Before joining Otago, his career included a postdoctoral scholarship at The George Washington University, a position as research faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and serving as Director of Psychometrics at Southern New Hampshire University. Additionally, he provides expertise in statistics and psychometrics for the Curriculum Insights project at Otago.
Reichenberg's research interests encompass quantitative methods in educational and social science research, educational measurement and latent variable modeling, psychometric considerations for educational games and simulations, online and distance education, and socioemotional aspects of learning. He actively teaches courses on quantitative methods and mentors graduate students in projects employing these techniques. Notable publications include: Rudasill et al. (2024), "The effect of INSIGHTS on developmental trajectories of children’s self-regulation," Early Childhood Education Journal; Baker et al. (2024), "Toward a causal modeling approach for trust-based interventions in human-autonomy teams," in Putting AI in the Critical Loop; Reichenberg et al. (2022), "Considerations for fitting dynamic Bayesian networks within latent variables: A Monte Carlo study," Applied Psychological Measurement; Reichenberg (2018), "Dynamic Bayesian networks in educational measurement: Reviewing and advancing the state of the field," Applied Measurement in Education; and Eggum-Wilkens et al. (2016), "Components of effortful control and their relations to children’s shyness," International Journal of Behavioral Development. His scholarly contributions, cited over 240 times according to Google Scholar, underscore his influence in the field of educational measurement and related areas.
