Dr Rebecca Lloyd-Jones serves as a Lecturer in Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, part of Griffith University’s Arts, Education and Law group. An accomplished Australian-born percussionist, she embodies a multiform approach to music, deeply committed to performance, research, and education. Her academic background includes a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of California, San Diego, under Distinguished Professor Steven Schick, a Master of Music Research from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, and graduation from the Victorian College of the Arts with the Desma Woolcock award for academic excellence.
In her career, Lloyd-Jones has served as Artistic Director of Synergy Percussion from 2023 to 2025 and as a Marimba One Education Artist. She has performed internationally across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, including at the BBC Proms, Concertgebouw Concert Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Noon to Midnight festival, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Collaborations feature ensembles like PARTCH, Red Fish Blue Fish, and Up:Strike Project, alongside participations in soundSCAPE (Italy), IMPULS (Graz), and a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. She presented at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, produced the 2022 Transplanted Roots Research Symposium, and adjudicated the 2024 IPEA International Percussion Competition. Her research explores gendered feminine percussion practices, exemplified by work on Lucia Dlugoszewski. Awards include the 2025 Elizabeth Wood Musicology Research Fellowship from the University of Adelaide, American-Australian Association Arts Fund support, and Creative Arts Research Institute funding. Compositions appear on Populist Records, New Focus Recordings, MADE NOW MUSIC, and the AME percussion syllabus.
