Rebecca Macdonald is a Lecturer in Paramedicine at the University of the Sunshine Coast's School of Health. Her robust academic credentials include a Master of Emergency Health (MEmergHlth) obtained from Monash University, a Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSci(Hons)) from the University of the Sunshine Coast, a Bachelor of Paramedic Science (BPmdSc) from the University of the Sunshine Coast, and a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (BSportExSc) from the University of the Sunshine Coast. She is presently engaged in completing her PhD at the University of the Sunshine Coast, with her thesis dedicated to exploring paramedic wellbeing.
Rebecca's career trajectory is marked by a blend of clinical practice and academic engagement. She has served as a casual academic tutor for numerous programs within the University of the Sunshine Coast prior to her current full-time lecturing position. As an Advanced Care Paramedic II, duly registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), she has garnered extensive hands-on experience in both Queensland, Australia, and the United Kingdom. In these capacities, she has performed duties as a frontline clinical paramedic, a mentor to students, and a clinical support officer. Her professional responsibilities have spanned critical areas such as direct patient care in paramedicine, leadership within professional teams, delivery of educational programs, and mentoring of new graduates entering the field. Complementing her practical expertise, Rebecca contributes significantly to paramedic education through her teaching responsibilities, which include PAR102 - Paramedic Clinical Foundations, PAR201 - Paramedic Clinical Systems, and PAR311 - Leadership in Clinical Practice. Her research interests are specifically attuned to paramedic wellbeing, aligning with her doctoral pursuits. Furthermore, she holds membership in the Australasian College of Paramedicine, underscoring her commitment to the profession. In recognition of her pedagogical excellence, Rebecca has been awarded Associate Fellow status (AFHEA) by AdvanceHE, an international body that acknowledges outstanding contributions to learning and teaching in higher education.
