About Rebecca

Dr. Rebecca Wilde is an Associate Professor (Reader, Teaching Focused) and Head of Business Innovation, Supply Chain and Trade in the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick. She completed her Master’s degree in Economics at the University of Warwick, followed by a PhD in Employment Research from the same institution in July 2021. Her doctoral thesis, titled 'An Empirical Study of the Nursing Labour Supply Decision in England,' utilized a mixed-methods approach to investigate nursing labour supply in the UK, focusing on factors influencing participation, retention, and turnover among qualified nurses. Prior to joining WMG, Wilde served as a lecturer and Course Director of the Economics programme in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Coventry University from 2009 to 2018, while pursuing her PhD. During this period, she contributed to projects on health and labour economics in the UK and Europe and co-founded the Health Economics Academic Research Group at Coventry University.

Wilde's research specializations include nursing labour supply, health economics, the UK healthcare market, and international labour economics. She delivers master's-level teaching in international economics and trade, leading modules such as International Trade and Legal Aspects of a Global Business. As Course Director for WMG’s MSc in International Trade, Strategy and Operations, her programme achieved a top 5 global ranking in the QS International Trade Rankings 2025. She holds additional roles including Economic Academic Advisor to the UK Department of International Trade since 2019, academic volunteer economist for Pro Bono Economics, and Fellow of the Institute of Export and International Trade. Key publications encompass her 2021 PhD thesis, 'Enhancing Nurse Satisfaction: An Exploration of Specialty Nurse Shortage in a Region of NHS England' co-authored with Karl Shutes, and 'Innovating Trade in the Digital Era' co-authored with Sylwia Nowak in 2024.
