Reza Habib is the Director of the School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences and an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He received his B.S. in 1993, M.A. in 1994, and Ph.D. in Psychology in 2000 from the University of Toronto, where his doctoral work was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Endel Tulving. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Habib completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rotman Research Institute in Toronto. He joined Southern Illinois University Carbondale as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology in the Fall of 2003 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. He has cross-appointments in the School of Medicine and the Department of Computer Science.
Dr. Habib's academic interests lie in cognitive neuroscience, with a focus on brain imaging techniques such as fMRI, statistical methodology for neuroimaging, long-term learning and memory, and the neurobiology of pathological gambling. His research has appeared in high-impact journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, NeuroImage, Cerebral Cortex, and the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. Dr. Habib has obtained funding through grants from the Institute for Research on Gambling Disorders ($33,750 in 2010), the Center for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders ($19,900 in 2009), and multiple Southern Illinois University faculty seed grants. He serves as Program Director for the Doctorate in Psychology and teaches courses such as Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Design and Analysis, and Multivariate Methods in Psychology.
