Dr. Rhonda Joy is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland, currently on leave. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Ed. from Memorial University of Newfoundland, an Ed.D. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (O.I.S.E.)/University of Toronto, and is a Registered Psychologist (RPsych) in Newfoundland and Labrador. Previously recognized as Associate Professor (Counselling Psychology), her academic career includes significant administrative leadership, such as serving as Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Research from 2016 to 2025, where she supported student success and research excellence in the Faculty of Education. She also acted as Dean of the Faculty of Education from April to July 2017. In 2024, Dr. Joy received the Dean's Award for Service Excellence from Memorial University's School of Graduate Studies.
Dr. Joy's research interests include second language learning in French immersion and Intensive French programs, career development through career integrated learning, perceptions and knowledge about concussions, and counseling. Her scholarly contributions, with over 150 citations, encompass publications such as 'Teacher readiness: Teacher attitudes, opinions, and perspectives towards facilitating positive mental health in the classroom' (2019), 'Women reflect on their journeys toward becoming academics: Challenges and supports' (2017), 'Educational and School Psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador: A 15-Year Follow-Up' (2016), 'The journey between there and here: Stories of a faculty writing group' (2016), 'Infant Feeding in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada: Perceptions and Experiences of Maternal Grandmothers' (2016), and 'The inclusion of children with special educational needs in an inclusive French immersion context' (2012). These works address teacher mental health facilitation, women's academic journeys, school psychology practices, faculty collaboration, and inclusive education, impacting professional development and counseling in educational settings.
