Richard Munro serves as the Senior Imaging Technician in the Digital Capture Unit at the Hocken Collections, University of Otago Library, located in Dunedin, New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Otago and a Diploma in Commercial Digital Photography from Aoraki Polytechnic. In his position, Munro is responsible for the high-quality digitization and imaging of the Hocken Collections' extensive holdings, which include rare books, manuscripts, ephemera, photographs, art works, archives, and materials related to Aotearoa New Zealand, the Pacific, and Antarctica. The Hocken Collections celebrate the histories, cultures, and natural environments of these regions, and Munro's work supports researchers accessing these materials.
Munro's technical expertise has supported academic research and preservation at the University of Otago, as evidenced by acknowledgements in numerous scholarly works. Researchers have thanked him for imaging assistance and help locating sources in theses on topics including a technological analysis of Gabriel's Gully and the Blue Spur, the milk supply to Dunedin and its suburbs 1848-1900, the world of Joseph W.
