Riiti Conway is a Professional Practice Fellow and Equity Group Lead in the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago. Her role involves strengthening the Division's equity work programmes under the Admissions Policy for Health Sciences Professional Programmes. She supports quality improvement across Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) papers and enhances access pathways for students from rural and refugee backgrounds into Health Professional Programmes through guided support. Conway serves as the primary contact for equity-related advice in admissions for multiple programmes, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiation Therapy, Oral Health, and Dental Technology. She advises applicants on documentation requirements and eligibility for refugee and rural origins equity groups, ensuring fair access opportunities for diverse learners.
Bringing over six years of experience in the health sector, Riiti Conway has a background in Public Health, including primary care, public health research, and health promotion. She has led equity-focused teams and co-designed initiatives supporting Māori, Pacific, and under-served communities across the Southern region of Te Waipounamu. Her contributions include involvement in the ROOTS pilot programme, which aids rural-origin students in their first year and aligns with the university's Learner Success Strategy to improve outcomes for Māori, Pacific, and rural students. Conway is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in strategic leadership to enhance her capacity for influencing systems change and advancing equity in health and education. Based in Dunedin, she contributes to the Division's commitment to inclusion and student success, particularly for international, multilingual, and equity group students entering health professions.
