Dr. Robert Rankin Brooks serves as Dean of the College of Arts and Media and Professor of Music at Hardin-Simmons University. He earned a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, and a Professional Internship in Arts Administration. Throughout his career, Dr. Brooks has held significant leadership roles in higher education and arts administration. He previously served at Hardin-Simmons University in the music faculty, as Dean of the College of Fine Arts, and from 1998 to 2001 as Assistant Professor of Church Music and Head of the Department of Church Music. At Dallas Baptist University, he was Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Dean of the Graduate School of Ministry. Dr. Brooks also worked at The Juilliard School, first as Associate Director of Educational Outreach and later as Director of Educational Outreach.
Dr. Brooks' teaching background encompasses choral studies, conducting, voice, music history, music and worship, musical theatre, arts administration, and music industry. He has directed numerous choral and instrumental ensembles, musicals, and worship events across professional, educational, and church settings. As a performer, Dr. Brooks has experience as a musician and actor, spanning the professional stage, higher education, and church worship. He maintains active memberships in key professional organizations, including the American Choral Directors Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Texas Music Educators Association, and Actors Equity Association. In his current roles at Hardin-Simmons University, Dr. Brooks leads the College of Arts and Media, which includes the School of Music, fostering excellence in music education, performance, worship leadership, and related arts disciplines.
