Robert Hass is Professor of English in the Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, now part of Pennsylvania Western University Edinboro. He earned a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1985, an M.A. from the University of Florida in 1987 studying under Donald Justice, an M.F.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1993, and a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 1999. Joining the faculty in 2001 as an assistant professor of English and Theatre Arts, he has advanced to full professor, teaching courses in creative writing, American literature, British literature, classical literature, and Shakespeare. Hass serves as Executive Director of the Robert Frost Society and has contributed significantly to Frost scholarship.
His research specializations center on Robert Frost, as evidenced by his critically acclaimed book Going by Contraries: Robert Frost’s Conflict with Science (University of Virginia Press, 2002), selected by Choice as an Outstanding Academic Title in 2003. He is the author of the poetry collection Counting Thunder (David Robert Books, 2008) and co-editor of multiple volumes of The Letters of Robert Frost published by Harvard University Press, including Volume 2: 1920–1928 and Volume 4: 1937–1946. Hass has received the Academy of American Poets Prize, the Associated Writing Programs Intro Journals Award, and a creative writing fellowship to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. In 2018, he was named Edinboro University Scholar of the Year. His articles and poems have appeared in journals such as Poetry, Sewanee Review, Agni, Black Warrior Review, Studies in English Literature, and Journal of Modern Literature. Hass's work has garnered 72 citations on Google Scholar, reflecting his impact in the field of American literature and poetry.
