Associate Professor Robin Quigg serves as Ahorangi Tūhono - Hauora Māori in the Department of Public Health (Dunedin), University of Otago, within the Faculty of Medicine. She holds a PhD from the University of Otago (2010) with a thesis titled 'Assessing the effect of up-grading playgrounds on children's physical activity levels,' an MAppSci (Hons), and a BPRMgmt from Lincoln University. Her academic trajectory reflects expertise in parks and recreation management evolving into advanced public health research, with a focus on environmental determinants of health.
Quigg's research specializations encompass Māori health, decolonising urban parks and reserves, physical activity (utilizing accelerometers and GPS), smokefree policy evaluation, spatial equity, tobacco control, and Indigenous perspectives on public spaces. Notable publications include 'Indigenous rights and managed public land: a critical treaty analysis of parks and reserves in New Zealand' (Local Environment, 2025), '"Stealth vaping is everywhere": The narratives of young Māori adults in New Zealand' (Nicotine & Tobacco Research, 2025), 'Commuting lives: children\'s mobility and energy use' (2009), and 'The Association between Parent Diet Quality and Child Dietary Patterns' (2017). Her scholarship garners over 890 citations, an h-index of 14 (Google Scholar), influencing fields of public health, Indigenous studies, and environmental equity.
