Dr. Ron Morris serves as Senior Lecturer in Vocal Health and Pedagogy at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. A qualified speech therapist, audiologist, and classical counter-tenor singer, he integrates clinical and performance expertise into his academic role and maintains a private practice at Brisbane Speech and Hearing Clinic. Morris obtained his Bachelor of Speech Therapy (Honours) from the University of Queensland in 1985, with additional Honours in Audiology awarded in 1986. He later earned a Master of Music Studies (Voice) and a PhD from Griffith University, where his doctoral research examined Accent Method Breathing in young classical singers.
Morris's research interests encompass vocal pedagogy, breathing and support techniques for singing and speaking, and the changing voice in adolescent girls. His key publications include co-authoring Singing and Teaching Singing: A Holistic Approach to Classical Voice, Fourth Edition (2021) with Janice L. Chapman, which provides a comprehensive guide to holistic classical voice training; If in Doubt, Breathe Out! Breathing and Support Based on the Accent Method (2016) with Linda Hutchison, stemming from his PhD work; and the chapter 'The Role of the Speech and Language Therapist – Speech Pathologist – In the Modern Singing Studio' in Teaching Singing in the 21st Century (2015). Additional contributions feature peer-reviewed articles such as 'Under Pressure: Reports of Performance Anxiety Across the Singing Life Span' (2022). He teaches courses including Vocal Pedagogy, Accent Method Breathing, Pedagogy Practicum 1, and Awareness through Movement, supporting voice, wind, and brass students. Morris is a longstanding member of Speech Pathology Australia since 1985 and serves on the editorial board of Australian Voice. His interdisciplinary approach influences vocal health practices in music education.
