Dr. Roslyn Franklin is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Southern Cross University, specializing in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). Holding a Diploma in Teaching Physical Education (DipT PE, OTH AUS), Bachelor of Education (BEd, OTH AUS), Master of Education (MEd, Griffith University), and PhD (Griffith University), she has over forty years of experience in the teaching profession. Franklin began as a Health and Physical Education teacher in primary and secondary schools in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. She later lectured in this area at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus and served as Director of the Professional Experience Office, managing strategic direction for all School of Education programs and earning various awards and teaching citations. Her PhD research examined sponsorship issues for female surfers, culminating in the thesis "Making waves: contesting the lifestyle marketing and sponsorship of female surfers" (2012).
In 2013, Franklin joined Southern Cross University as the primary Unit Assessor and lecturer for PDHPE units at the Lismore and Gold Coast campuses, significantly enhancing unit and student satisfaction scores. Now retired, she works part-time as a Unit Assessor for PDHPE units and Professional Experience University Supervisor. Her research interests focus on promoting girls and women in sport, especially surfing; equity issues in women’s surfing; physical education assessment and technology; and boosting preservice teachers’ confidence in physical education. Notable publications include "Practical assessment on the run – iPads as an effective mobile assessment solution for Physical Education" (2015), "Surfing, sponsorship and sexploitation: the reality of being a female professional surfer" (2018), and "Sponsorship and female surfing: What's it all about?". Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
