Dr Roslyn Prichard serves as a Lecturer in Nursing at the University of the Sunshine Coast's School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, part of the Faculty of Health. She began her association with UniSC as a sessional academic in 2019, transitioning to a permanent lecturing position in 2021. With a robust clinical foundation, Prichard worked as a clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager in cardiothoracic intensive care units across Australia and the United Kingdom, with a focus on transplant services and ventricular support devices for heart failure patients. Her academic credentials include a PhD from the University of Technology Sydney (2020), centered on health economic evaluations of ventricular assist device therapy using patient-reported outcomes in value-based healthcare, conducted in collaboration with St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney's heart and lung team. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Intensive Care from London South Bank University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Coronary Care Unit from the University of Melbourne, and is a Registered Nurse qualified from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
In her research, Prichard explores patient-reported outcomes, health economics, mHealth applications, haemodynamics, exercise physiology, and frailty in heart failure and peripheral arterial disease. More recently, her work extends to nursing readiness for digital health technologies, generative AI in higher education, and strategies for diversity, equity, and inclusion in cardiovascular research. Notable publications encompass the Cochrane review "mHealth education interventions in heart failure" (Allida et al., 2020; 134 citations), "Adaptation and coping in patients living with an LVAD: a metasynthesis" (Abshire et al., 2016; 106 citations), "Costs before and after left ventricular assist device implant and preceding heart transplant: a cohort study" (Prichard et al., 2020), "Evaluating the convergent and discriminant validity of three versions of the frailty phenotype in heart failure" (McDonagh et al., 2019), and "Six-minute walk distance predicts VO2(max) in patients supported with continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices" (Prichard et al., 2014). With over 500 citations, her contributions advance cardiac nursing and health technology integration. Prichard teaches courses in Research Methods, Healthy Ageing, Professional Communication, and Health Culture and Society.
