Dr Rowena Mobbs MBBS BMedSci(Hons1) PhD FRACP is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Medicine at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University. She is a subspecialist in cognitive neurology with expertise in concussion, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and dementia services. Her academic background includes medical training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and a Fellowship in cognitive and behavioural neurology, neurological sleep disorders, and movement disorders at the Brain and Mind Centre. Dr Mobbs completed her PhD on neurodegenerative changes in acute and chronic compressive myelopathy. She serves as Clinical Co-Director of the Australian Sports Brain Bank and leads the Macquarie University Concussion and Repetitive Head Trauma Research Group, focusing on the integration of multidisciplinary care, research translation, patient-centred approaches, and community advocacy for those living with dementia.
Dr Mobbs' research contributions include key publications such as 'The Australian Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative: systematic review and consensus process to determine the predictive value of pre-existing health conditions for people with moderate-severe traumatic brain injury' (Journal of Neurotrauma, 2025), 'The Australian Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative: systematic review of clinical factors associated with outcomes in people with moderate-severe traumatic brain injury' (Neurotrauma Reports, 2024), 'The Australian Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative: review and recommendations for outcome measures for use with adults and children after moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury' (Neurotrauma Reports, 2024), and 'Clinical gait characteristics in the early post-concussion phase: a systematic review' (Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2023). She has been honored with the Spine Society of Australia Award for Spinal Research in 2003 and 2004. Additionally, Dr Mobbs has delivered invited talks and presentations, including 'Concussion: A primer for GPs' (2020), 'From headache to CTE: assessing the patient with repetitive head trauma' (2020), 'National Repetitive Head Trauma Initiative Seminar' (2020), and 'Younger-onset Dementia' (2020), influencing clinical practice and public awareness in neurology.
