About Rune

Prof. Dr. Rune Ellemose Gulev serves as Professor for Business Administration and International Management at the Faculty of Business Management, Kiel University of Applied Sciences (HAW Kiel), since 2010. Hailing from Denmark, he has primarily lived, worked, and studied abroad. His career trajectory includes serving as Assistant Professor at the University of Primorska in Koper from 2008 to 2010, engaging in corporate consulting with Gulev.Dukaric Consulting in Reutlingen from 2004 to 2008, participating in a management program at Centrica plc in London from 2003 to 2004, and conducting business analysis at Detecon International Consulting GmbH in Bonn from 2001 to 2002. Prior to 2000, he completed military service in the Royal Danish Engineer Corps in Copenhagen. Gulev holds academic affiliations for research and guest teaching at institutions including Tecnologica de Monterrey in Puebla and Queretaro, Harvard University, XAMK in Mikkeli, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, International School for Social and Business Studies in Celje, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe, Universidade Portucalense in Porto, IMEA Business School in Besançon, and Copenhagen Business School.

His research centers on connecting national cultural differences to mitigate communication barriers in international business settings, while exploring sustainability strategies such as emissions trading systems and carbon taxes, claims of carbon neutrality, workplace creativity environments, workplace alcohol acceptance, cultural influences on import purchasing biases, and culture's effects on hygiene practices and motivational techniques. Gulev teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses like Intercultural Management, Cross Cultural Leadership and Human Resource Management, Cross Cultural Business Management, Managing Sustainability for Modern Businesses, and Strategic Management and Marketing. Notable publications encompass books including Multicultural Management - A collection of country profiles for higher cultural competence (2017), Knowledge Sharing across Cultures: Useful Guidance and Recommendations for Growing International Companies (2009), and Intercultural Subsidiary Management - A Cross Country Analysis of Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Denmark (2007); selected journal articles such as Work-Related Alcohol Consumption: An Analysis of Motivators and Responses across Cultures (2024, with G. Dukaric), The Effect of a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program on Students' Test Performance (2021, with M. Dressler), and Connecting Culture to Creativity and Innovation: how trust and other forms of corporate culture influence innovative behaviour (2016). He earned the Best Paper Award at the Management International Conference 2008 for Cultural Repercussions. As Faculty International Coordinator, he leads the student academic think tank Europe United & Thinking and delivers seminars enhancing efficiency in multicultural workplaces.
