Ryan Monti, PT, DPT, PhD, SCS, served as Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Walsh University. He holds a PhD in Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Youngstown State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from John Carroll University. Monti completed a Physical Therapy Faculty Residency at Nova Southeastern University and a Clinical Fellowship in the Upper Extremity Athlete at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. As a board-certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, he has extensive clinical experience in outpatient musculoskeletal conditions, particularly with collegiate and professional athletes. Since 2020, he has served as core faculty in Doctor of Physical Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistant programs, providing post-professional education in orthopaedic and sports physical therapy residencies and fellowships focused on upper extremity content.
Monti's research specializations and academic interests include upper extremity conditions, overhead athletes, injury prevention and reduction programs, and baseball-related topics, with an emphasis on pediatric and adolescent sports populations. Key peer-reviewed publications co-authored during his affiliation with Walsh University include "The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic Shoulder & Elbow Score used as a patient-reported outcome measure for the youth and high school aged baseball athlete" (International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy, 2022; with A. Fernandez-Fernandez), "Stride length and torso biomechanics as they relate to medial elbow injuries in adolescent aged baseball pitchers: a clinical commentary" (IJSPT, 2022; with Z. Dietz et al.), and "An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk screening and reduction program for high school female athletes: a pilot study" (IJSPT, 2022; with A. Kuntz et al.). He also authored "Return to hitting: an interval hitting progression and overview of hitting mechanics following injury" (IJSPT, 2015) and "Instructional Technology in Physical Therapy Education" (Distance Learning, 2019). Monti contributed chapters to O’Sullivan & Siegelman’s PTA Examination Review & Study Guide (7th Edition, 2024), including on musculoskeletal physical therapy, teaching and learning, and research and evidence-based practice. His influence in the field is evidenced by presentations such as posters at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting (San Antonio, 2022) on the Kerlan-Jobe score in youth baseball athletes and at the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy Annual Meeting (Indianapolis, 2022) on lead shoulder post-operative stabilization and return to baseball hitting. At Walsh University, he delivered a faculty presentation at the DPT Research Symposium on patient-reported outcome measures for youth and high school baseball athletes and advised a senior honors thesis on surface electromyography examination of quadriceps and hamstrings muscle coactivation in collegiate athletes (Spring 2023).
